I’ll throw my hat in the ring

Since the announcement earlier this week that Jodie Whittaker’s upcoming 3rd season as Doctor Who will be her last, the internet has been full of folks tossing out who they think would make the perfect replacement casting. When it was announced that Peter Capaldi was leaving the show, I contended that fellow Broadchurch alum Olivia Coleman was the perfect choice for the first ever female cast in the role in the shows 50 plus year history.

That of course didn’t happen, and while I’ve enjoyed Jodie’s time in the role, I agree with this article from Collider that the show ultimately failed her.

Hopefully we’ll see another female get a crack at the role of The Doctor, but early signs are pointing to the show returning to a male casting. If those rumors are true, allow me to give my two humble choices for consideration.

Both James Callis and Richard Ayoade would be great choices as they both would bring their own special personality to the role. I’m not even sure that either would want the job, but fan casting can be a fun exercise in fandom. So for my money, if I were the new showrunner for Doctor Who, these two would be at the top of my list.

And if they end up going with another female lead to replace Jodie, Olivia Coleman is my eternal choice to play The Doctor!

As always, leave a comment with your thoughts. Until next time, LLAP!
